What We Are Looking For

Phoenix Scholarship recipients are held to a higher standard than normal student-athletes. We expect our players to exhibit good sportsmanship and leadership qualities, both on and off the field.

And while having strong baseball skills is important to making it to the next level, a commitment to academic excellence is just as critical. We expect our student-athletes to challenge themselves with a rigorous course schedule and maintain a 3.0 GPA while doing so.

Sebastean Gonzalez-Johnson - Boca Raton, FL (Tufts University)

"I am blessed with the opportunity to play baseball at Tufts University. I live with my single mother and little sister, although at times finances were tight, I have never missed an opportunity to play or be seen. The scholarship and showcases allowed me the opportunity to extend my career into the collegiate level...the hard work that I have put on the field and in the classroom all these years have paid off!"

Manny Pupo - Boynton Beach, FL (University of Maine)

"I am so grateful for the opportunity because of the scholarship that was a big part of me getting a college education and playing D1 baseball. The combination of summer ball and showcases in front of the coaches was incredible.  The mentoring helped me to focus, set goals to achieve both on the field and academically. Thank you for taking me under your wing and making a big difference for my future."

Alex Bonilla - Boynton Beach, FL (University of South Carolina Beaufort)

"Had it not been for the Scholarship opportunity and showcases attended, I don't think I would have received the many offers and opportunities afforded to me. Getting exposure in front of some of the best baseball programs and their coaches made a huge difference for me. With guidance, I looked for schools with strong baseball programs and that took my academic major into consideration. Thank you so very much for helping me find the perfect college that is going to give me an opportunity to continue playing the game that I love while continuing my education and furthering my degree. You've taken a huge burden off my shoulders and for that, I am grateful."

Byron Ferguson - Lake Worth, FL (Bethune Cookman)

"Working with Berg was a pleasure.  He took the time to understand my son in order to find the right fit for his college experience. The opportunity and showcases attended were the driving force. We were presented with various options and ultimately signed with Bethune-Cookman University."
